Developer stays local for big scheme

A Northumberland based house builder is about to embark on its biggest project since the housing crash, creating new jobs within an expanding supply chain.

County Life Homes will build nine executive homes on the two and a half acres site of a former farmstead on Brunton Lane, Gosforth.

Demolition of the old buildings is now underway and construction on the £7.5 million venture will commence before Christmas.

Said Managing Director, Mike Pattison: “This is the largest scheme we have tackled in the past few years and will take between eighteen months and two years to complete. Our supply chain will involve about a dozen trades and we anticipate 30 to 40 people from local businesses will be involved in the development.

“We also plan to source many of the materials locally in order to maximise the benefit to the Tyneside and Northumberland business community. It’s a very exciting initiative which we believe will sit neatly in a rural environment.”

Classically designed in traditional brick and stone, with slated roofs, in order to recreate a Georgian farm house look, the four and five bedroomed homes will each stand in plots of at least quarter of an acre.

Since being established in 2000 County Life Homes has focused on small developments of high quality homes in prime locations. Most recently there have been three Corbridge schemes - Princes Court, St. Helen’s Mews and Riggsacre – Shaftoe Crescent in Hexham and Seafield at Seahouses.
