Salford construction firm lands £1.25m in contracts with North West universities
Manchester & Cheshire Construction has secured a trio of university contract wins collectively worth £1.25m.
The Salford-based construction firm landed two projects with the University of Manchester to reconfigure and fit out new science and laboratory facilities. Work will encompass the AV Hill Building, a £39m centre for neuroscience and immunology research, and the Michael Smith Building, a £62m molecular cell biology research hub.
Manchester & Cheshire Construction, which signed a majorhousebuilding partnership with a Chinese developer in October, has also been appointed to install a centrally controlled electronic system that governs access to various restricted areas on the university campus, in addition to other building modifications.
The firm’s project at the University of Salford will involve implementing a fast-track project at the Mary Seacole Building, which houses the College of Health and Social Care. The company will transform clinical, teaching and computer rooms into nursing and midwifery lab space.
Eugene O’Callaghan, construction director at Manchester & Cheshire Construction, said: “These latest contracts strengthen our presence in the higher education sector and are a testament to our specialist knowledge and expertise in this field.
“They build on other projects at universities across the region, including a £6m contract earlier this year to refurbish the University of Manchester’s Samuel Alexander Building, and previous ones at The Whitworth art gallery and the Manchester Museum.”
Consultants working with Manchester & Cheshire Construction on the schemes are project management specialists Gleeds, Rider Levett Bucknall and Faithful + Gould, and architects Day Architectural and Wilson Mason.
Salford and Manchester are not the only North West universities to undergo recent refurbishment work. Earlier this week, Preston architects Cassidy + Ashton completed a project to overhaul space at the University of Liverpool.
