Chester health club and spa shortlisted at the National Fitness Awards
A Chester health club and spa has been shortlisted for a prestigious industry award.
Huntington-based Old Hall Country Club & Spa is a finalist in the highly sought-after Health Club of the Year category at the National Fitness Awards.
It’s the second time in three years the club, set in 13 acres of landscaped gardens, has been a finalist. It is the only club in Cheshire shortlisted for an award.
Family-owned and run for 21 years, Old Hall boasts a low staff turnover rate, as well as dozens of members who have renewed membership annually for two decades.
Set in a range of listed buildings, facilities include a recently-expanded gym and exercise studio, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, four all-weather tennis courts and a spa. It also serves home-made food for its member’s lounge bar.
The club also organises and hosts social events for its members, including outdoor poolside BBQs, summer marquee balls, fashion shows and murder mystery evenings.
Old Hall has also developed ‘clubs within clubs’, with options for members to join a walking club, golf society, and camera club, as well as take part in regular tennis tournaments.
And owner David Bloomberg, who set up the business with his sister Su in 1994, says the relationship between the club and its staff and members plays a crucial role in its success.
“It’s a cliché but we are more than just a gym or spa. We are very much a community, and the people are at the heart of what we do,” he said.
“More than half of our team has been with us for more than 10 years, including five who are approaching their 20th anniversary working here.
“And 60 of our members have been using our facilities for more than two decades. This illustrates what people think about our setup and offering.
“This award recognition wouldn’t have been possible without the community ethos developed at Old Hall Country Club & Spa.”
The National Fitness Awards, in their sixth year, acknowledge achievement and excellence across the UK health and fitness sector.
Run by Workout magazine, the industry bible, the Health Club of the Year category is highly competitive, with shortlisted candidates evidencing above average facilities, inventive marketing campaigns and excellent customer service.
Old Hall made the shortlist following a round of judging by a panel of industry experts. The winner will be announced on Friday 4 December.
It has previously won the Fitness Industry Association’s Club of the Year award on two occasions, as well as being runner-up twice.
