Sunderland Software City selected as IoTUK Boost partner

Following a competitive application process Sunderland Software City has been chosen as one of four successful organisations that will deliver IoTUK Boost, a series of local IoT innovation challenges and rapid incubation activities across social services, river and marine, emergency response and smarter working sectors taking place over the next five months.

Sunderland Software City will work with IoTUK to identify up to 20 SMEs and bring them together with large companies or public sector organisations to help find solutions to specific challenges. Each Boost will culminate in a two-day workshop and innovation contest, with SMEs gaining access to business, technical and mentoring support from the IoTUK team.

“Our goal at IoTUK is to collaborate with start-ups, SMEs, enterprises, academics and other contributors to the digital economy to advance the take up of IoT in the UK,” said Maurizio Pilu, Executive Director for Collaborative R&D, Digital Catapult.

“The companies chosen to be our Boost partners mirror our passion and interest for IoT as a transforming approach to business and society. Sunderland Software City’s submission particularly stood out for their track record in bringing dynamic local innovators together with challenge owners and helping scale solutions internationally. We are delighted that Sunderland Software City is part of the IoTUK Boost programme.”

David Dunn, Chief Executive of Sunderland Software City said: “The Internet of Things is the development of technology by which sensors collect information from objects and share it between themselves, allowing for greater automation and productivity in all walks of life.”

Dunn continued: “Our IoTUK Boost programme will help businesses and public services to understand how analysing this information and deploying IoT technologies to maximise its potential can transform businesses and public services whilst creating new opportunities for the North East’s technology community. We look forward to working alongside the region’s existing and aspiring IoT companies to solve the sector challenges and explore commercial opportunities within the IoT space.”

IoTUK Boost will be delivered as a collaboration between Sunderland Software City and IoTUK, ensuring a deep understanding of local needs and capabilities together with application of the very best subject matter expertise. IoTUK Boost will be delivered in each geographic area in early 2016, followed by one month of support activities which are set to take place until the end of March.

The four IoTUK Boost partners are: CENSIS, DataCity - Leeds, CW (Cambridge Wireless Ltd) and Sunderland Software City.
