£9m Sowerby residential scheme set for public launch

New homes for over 55s, delivered as part of a £9m investment in Sowerby, is set to be unveiled next week.

With construction well underway at Herriot Gardens, off Gravel Hole Lane, an open day is to be held at the Golden Fleece Hotel in Thirsk on Monday 7th December.

The development has been built by Galliford Try Partnerships North on behalf of Tristar Homes, which is part of Thirteen Group and in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council.

The development comprises 26 two-bedroomed bungalows and an extra care facility including 64 one and two bedroomed apartments for sale, shared ownership and rent, which will be managed by Tristar Homes.

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has helped fund the scheme.

The properties for sale are being marketed by Galliford’s house building division, Linden Homes and head of sales, Kate Brooks, said: “Herriot Gardens offers modern, attractive homes with fixtures and fittings to an extremely high level of specification, in a village-style environment. There is a shop and a café/bistro for residents and the wider local community to enjoy, as well as extra care services for residents with greater needs.

“In addition to the plans and drawings, which will be on display next week, the show bungalow has now opened, providing potential buyers with a real insight into how life could be at the development.”

Extra care is designed for the over 55s to offer a range of living styles, including fully independent to 24 hour, on-site support. The building is constructed so that adaptations can be made to the homes later to allow easier access and mobility.

The three storey apartment block includes a communal area on each floor, an attractive garden room and residents’ car park. All homes, including the bungalows, feature graded and level access and wet room-style bathrooms, to offer enhanced accessibility.

Martin Hawthorne, Thirteen Group’s director of development and regeneration, added: “This development will enhance the area’s strong sense of community and encourage residents to socialise with their neighbours as well as others living nearby. It is creating an important provision for Thirsk and the surrounding areas by delivering high quality, modern homes designed to meet the needs of local people who will benefit from its specialist features.”
