Bilfinger GVA secures Northern Gateway mandate
Bilfinger GVA has been appointed by Manchester City Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), working together as “Manchester Place”, as strategic real estate advisor for The Northern Gateway in Manchester.
Appointed alongside Pinsent Masons, Bilfinger GVA will seek to secure a private partner to invest in the large scale residential led regeneration opportunity. The Northern Gateway development opportunity comprises an area of over 100 hectares extending from Manchester City Centre and the Noma development out through New Cross, the Lower Irk Valley and Collyhurst neighbourhoods. The Northern Gateway represents a vision for Manchester, clearly identified and set out in masterplans and frameworks to create a series of distinctive and interconnected communities on the northern edge of the City Centre. The whole Gateway opportunity could potentially support around 7,000 new homes over a 15 year period - offering an Investment Partner a transformational role working alongside Manchester City Council in the future growth and development of the City. Tom Marshall, Senior Director and national head of Land & Development at Bilfinger GVA, comments: “Our client has a clear objective to create a platform for a holistic approach to comprehensive development in Manchester. The Northern Gateway is not only a major regeneration opportunity in itself, and a catalyst for wider inward investment, but its scale and nature is symbolic of the growth mechanism this government is seeking to establish through its much vaunted Northern Powerhouse initiative.” This opportunity forms part of the Manchester Place initiative - and represents the combined strength and collaboration between Manchester City Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to bring forward residential development in line with the City’s stated objectives of securing and delivering sustained economic and housing growth. The connected locales created as part of the Northern Gateway will be supported by high quality facilities and green spaces with excellent walking, cycling and public transport links. Marketing is due to commence in Q1 2016.
