Merseyside firm TCS enters renewable energy market with £1.5m installation

Merseyside-based project management firm Task Contract Solutions (TCS) has teamed up with European solar company SOLARWATT GmbH to create a green energy installation for the North West of England and the Isle of Man Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (NW RFCA).

The £1.5m installation will allow the NW RFCA to cut its energy costs, lower its carbon footprint and reduce the risk of energy price inflation at its Altcar Training Camp in Hightown, Sefton.

TCS’ managing director, Ian MacVicar, said of the project: “We wanted to demonstrate to public bodies and non-government organisations that we could deliver renewable energy generation using a power purchase agreement without their having to provide up-front capital.”

Installation of the five-acre solar farm followed the removal of 160k cubic metres of earth during the ground levelling process.

TCS and SOLARWATT will now be responsible for all major management and technical aspects of the solar farm.

Speaking further, Ian said: “The NW RFCA project demonstrates how partnerships can develop and accelerate successful implementation of renewable energy schemes to deliver economic and environmental advantages.

“Similar benefits are available to housing providers and local councils even as the Government continues its review of renewable energy incentives.”
