A CGI of the £13m Jubilee Court development

Work begins on £13m student accommodation development in Preston

Work is now underway on a new multi-million pound project to boost the availability of student accommodation in Preston.

Manchester-based developer Harbur Construction is delivering the £13m scheme, which comprises 44 five-bedroom flats and 20 studio apartments with space for 226 students. The en-suite flats include shared kitchen and dining areas.

The development, to be known as Jubilee Court, will also house a cinema, games room, laundry facilities and study space.

Harbur Construction’s MD, Richard Hutchinson, said: “The Fylde Road development is Harbur’s first scheme in the student accommodation sector, but we already have an array of other student development opportunities in the pipeline, so it’s a time of real expansion and growth for Harbur Construction.

“The development is located close to the main university campus and is being built using high quality materials so the properties will be robust enough for student living.”

Jubilee Court is being constructed on behalf of Alpha Homes, a private housing developer.

Alpha Homes’ director, Derek Kewley, said: “There is a real lack of supply of high quality student accommodation in Preston, and with the number of people choosing to study in the city surging year on year, the new scheme will really help plug this gap.”

Due for completion in July 2016, the Jubilee Court development will be located near University of Central Lancashire campus facilities, including part of its ongoing £200m regeneration scheme.
