Day five: FedEx festive top tips for small businesses

#5 Be Prepared for an Influx of Orders

Christmas is coming and at FedEx we want to help your business be fully prepared this festive season. For today’s top tip, please see below:

You can never quite predict when a product might increase in demand – whether that is at Christmas or another seasonal peak throughout the year. That’s why it is so important to take a moment now to ensure your business is ready in the event of a potential avalanche of trade. ‘Black Friday’ is a US phenomenon that has boosted the UK peak retail market in recent years, with an estimated £810 million of sales being made in 2014 by online retailers alone. The day also marks the beginning of the busiest period for logistics providers too, and last year FedEx moved approximately 290 million shipments globally between Black Friday and Christmas Eve 2014.

Make sure you’re well prepared for this period of increased demand, and brief all your staff so they’re ready to step in to fulfil additional orders as needed. It’s also worth speaking to your logistics provider to understand their processes during this busy time – as seasoned experts they should be able to give you further insight about what to expect, and how to manage opportunities. Get it right and you could be boosting profit in no time.
