Five Guys has opened 31 UK restaurants since 2013

Five Guys Liverpool open for business

Five Guys, the international burger chain, officially launched its new restaurant today (December 7) in Queen Square, Liverpool.

The company is the first tenant to set up shop in the former Rat and Parrot pub building, which forms part of Merseyside developer Promenade Estates’ £1m plan to transform the site into a new leisure and retail complex.

Five Guys, which offers customisable burgers, milkshakes and hand-cut fries, joins a number of restaurants in operation at Queen Square, including tapas chain La Tasca and South African-style eatery Nando’s.

Promenade Estates’ managing director, Daniel Hynd, said: “The regeneration of the Rat and Parrot pub is part of the next phase of growth for Queen Square, so it’s brilliant to see the first tenant up and running, especially a fast growing international brand like Five Guys.

“It is an exciting, family-run company that have taken off as one of the most successful restaurant brands in the world.”

He added: “The feedback we’ve had from the Liverpool public has been fantastic, so we’re thrilled to finally see it open.”

As part of the developer’s work on the building, the 14,500 sq ft site has been redesigned and fitted with LED lighting and aluminium cladding along with a new roof terrace. The project was delivered by contractors W H Snow.

Five Guys currently operates over 1,200 stores across the US, with 31 UK restaurants opened since 2013.

Speaking earlier this year when the plans for a Liverpool restaurant were first announced, Five Guys’ UK CEO, John Eckbert, commented: “Five Guys is very excited to be launching in Liverpool – one of England’s proudest and most important cities.

“Queen Square is a hub of activity from playhouses to galleries, attracting the kinds of customers that will be looking for our fresh burgers and fries.”
