Toy maker Primo embarks on £200k crowdfunding campaign
Smart-toy maker Primo has announced the launch of a new crowdfunding campaign to raise £200k.
The London-based firm is hoping to use the Crowdcube platform to drive its first product, the Cubetto Playset, which is a wooden robot designed to help young children discover and understand programming.
Filippo Yacob, co-founder and CEO at Primo, said: “To children, it’s playtime, but what they play with are curriculum mapped programming concepts like debugging, the queue, and recursions, all before they can read or write.
“We believe that coding is a new literacy, and should therefore be introduced and prioritised from an early age.”
He added: “Up until now young children were excluded from learning coding as products required literacy, or worked with purely digital interfaces, none of them designed for really young children.”
Those who invest through Crowdcube will join existing backers, such as investment firm IBIS Capital and design manufacturing company PCH International, in supporting Primo.
Cash raised will be used officially launch the Cubetto Playset in partnership with PCH.
