Cash boost to help Wallsend boy

A leading builder has gifted £1,000 towards the cost of specialised equipment for a Wallsend boy with Cerebral Palsy.

Persimmon Homes North East made the donation to nine-year-old Joseph Warren from the company’s Community Champions scheme, which provides financial support to deserving individuals, clubs or organisations across the region.

Joseph was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy shortly after birth, which affected all four limbs and later caused visual impairment and involuntary eye movements. More recently Joseph has had major surgery on his legs, which has allowed him to bear weight for the first time, but his ultimate goal is to walk unaided.

Joseph’s parents want him to live his life to the fullest alongside his siblings; twin-sister, Eleanor, Eliza-Rae and Samuel. In order to be able to do so, Nicola and Stephen, Joseph’s parents, want to buy Joseph a specialised walking frame, an adapted bike and a bespoke saddle for horse riding, allowing them all to participate in these activities as a family.

Stephen Warren said: “We are so grateful to Persimmon for this generous donation. The equipment and physio that Joseph needs is extremely expensive, and is simply out of our reach. We want to ensure that Joseph enjoys all the normal activities that children enjoy as part of growing up.”

Debbie Zaben, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes North East, said the scheme was an excellent way for the company to ensure it supports the communities in which it builds new homes.

She added: “We are so thrilled to give this lovely family a cash boost. We really hope this donation will help enable Joseph and his family to spend some well-deserved quality time together, whether it be horse-riding, cycling or walking.

“We now want to hear from more individuals, groups and charities as we look to allocate more funding over the next month.”
