Responsible homebuilder leaves green footprint

Leading developer Barratt Homes North East division has been leaving green footprints across the North East through its environmentally-conscious attitude towards homebuilding practices.

The division, which includes the Scholars Wynd development in Newcastle, Teal Farm Park in Sunderland and Milburn Green in Durham, built 629 new homes during 2015, 87% of which were built on previously developed, brownfield land, preserving more green areas in the region and protecting wildlife.

A further conscious effort was also made to support the local environment, with more than 27,900 trees or shrubs planted or retained on developments, with 1.7 hectares of wildlife habitat created.

Mike Roberts, Managing Director at Barratt Homes North East, said:

“As a five-star homebuilder we have a responsibility to ensure we’re conscious of the effect we are having on the environment and aim to combat this in any way possible.

“Furthermore, last year alone around 2,700 jobs were supported directly and indirectly through homebuilding by Barratt Homes North East and 473 sub contractor and supplier companies were supported.

“We care greatly about both the homes we build and the communities we create at our developments and so we use materials and practices that promote environmentally-friendly results.”
