York's Bishy Road: a social media success story

The recent success of York’s Bishopthorpe Road (Bishy Road) in the Great British High Street Awards is a brilliant example of how social media can help develop local relationships, encourage more people to get involved in their community and increase awareness of news and events.

Pick & Mix Marketing Solutions, one of York’s leading digital marketing agencies, has supported Bishy Road with its social media projects since 2014 and was proud to see the high street’s passion and community spirit rewarded in the prestigious national awards.

Proving to be a great place to live, shop and work; Bishy Road beat off hundreds of high streets across the country to be crowned Britain’s best high street in the government-led Great British High Street Awards.

As a member of the Bishy Road Traders Association, Pick & Mix Marketing Solutions has provided creative campaigns that have communicated key messages to the local community and demonstrated how working together can lead to positive results.

Pick & Mix helped Bishy Road grow its Twitter community by 352 per cent and its Facebook page followers by 340 per cent, with some posts enjoying more than 42,000 impressions.

Sally Trousdale, managing director at Pick & Mix Marketing Solutions, has also provided social media workshop training to empower traders to get involved with their own Facebook and Twitter profiles and pages.

Sally says: “I’m so proud to have been involved with Bishy Road’s recent success. It shows what can be achieved when you work as a collaborative group and embrace the potential of social media.”

Johnny Hayes, chairman of the Bishopthorpe Road Traders Association, said: “Sally Trousdale at Pick and Mix Marketing has been a crucial part of Bishy Road’s success. Her input on social media and training for local shopkeepers and local businesses has been invaluable.”

“She has helped to give confidence to those businesses that needed help and encouragement for us all on Bishy Road. Our confidence has grown and we now have a very effective social media presence. We are very grateful to Sally and Pick and Mix.”
