Burton Albion Ladies FC net £800 funding

Female footballers in Burton upon Trent are celebrating after netting a share of £24,000.

Burton Albion Ladies FC has been handed £800 funding from Persimmon Homes North Midlands as part of its Community Champions programme.

The club currently supports over 150 girls, ranging from nine years of age to open age players in the local and regional area. The money from the donation will go towards buying an AED defibrillator that will service the clubs 10+ junior and senior sides with fundraising currently ongoing to purchase a second unit.

Adam Smallman, head of football at Burton Albion Ladies FC said: “We are extremely thankful for the money donated to us by Persimmon Homes North Midlands. We recognise that having a defibrillator is an essential piece of equipment that could potentially save lives. As we are a separate club to the men’s team we are tasked with raising all funds ourselves and as such have been arranging a number of different fund raising activities. We know all players, both present and future, will feel safer having this machine to hand.”

Nadine O’Dowd, head of sales at Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “This is a fantastic football club with passionate and dedicated coaches and players. It is so encouraging to see women’s football becoming ever popular and we hope our donation will only help to improve safety for the players.”

Persimmon Homes North Midlands gifted Burton Albion Ladies FC the donation as part of the builder’s Community Champions scheme; a £24,000 fund to help support local clubs, groups and good causes.
