Raising a winning cup to Ringtons
Renowned British tea and coffee company Ringtons has reaffirmed its reputation as one of the north east’s leading businesses having been named as Business of the Year at the very first Living North Awards.
Beating off stiff competition from eight other well-known northern companies, Ringtons took home the sought-after title at a prestigious award ceremony held by Living North magazine at St Nicholas Cathedral in Newcastle.
Ringtons has been operating a doorstep delivery service since 1907 – although the original horse and carts have been swapped for vans in more recent years, Ringtons continues to offer a traditional doorstep operation to over 250,000 customers throughout the UK from over 30 sites. The family-run business is headed up by the fourth generation of the founding Smith family and includes a business-to-business division Ringtons Beverages, a franchise offering and a private label packing service as well as the doorstep service.
The company is currently undertaking a £3million expansion at its Tyneside factory to almost double the size of its operation which allows for future growth of its tea business and expansion of its coffee roasting facilities – an ever-growing business stream for the company.
Speaking of the award win, Jon Malton, Divisional Director for Ringtons Brand said: “We were nominated by the public in the Business of the Year category which is the biggest compliment to us and we were overwhelmed to take home the award in such a competitive category. The judges cited our commitment to our traditional values while expanding our business both within the UK and globally, as major factors in choosing Ringtons as the overall winner. Our new award has taken pride of place in our Newcastle head office and although we have offices throughout the UK from Edinburgh to Dorset we are honoured to hold this title in the region in which our business first began.”
