Yorkshire Christmas catch-up: Karen Tinkler from The Partners Group in York
As Christmas is less than a week away, and the businesspeople of Yorkshire preparing to hang up their stockings for the holiday, Bdaily is continuing its December interview series with Karen Tinkler, who is one of two owners of PR and communications agency, The Partners Group, in York.
As you already know, we at Bdaily love to bring our readers closer to the stories we write. So this month, we’re asking the questions we don’t usually get a chance to ask - giving you the opportunity to learn more about the people behind the businesses you often read about.
Your business
What were the highlights for The Partners Group in 2015?
We’ve had one of our best years this year, and it’s been brilliant to reward the team for all of their hard work and support. We’re very lucky to have them.
Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently this year?
I would have started recruiting sooner.
What’s in store for your company in 2016?
It feels as though there’s a real momentum behind the business at the moment. We’ve got a fantastic team in place and we’re ready to hit the New Year with some exciting campaigns for clients. Beyond that, we’re envisaging more growth and recruitment.
Your favourites
Have any other Yorkshire companies caught your eye this year? If so - why?
There are a couple of guys preparing to launch a music app who are definitely ones to watch in 2016 and beyond. It’s all hush hush at the moment, but from what I’ve seen so far they’ve got a great concept and the drive and passion to make it a success.
When business life gets on top of you, what do you do to destress?
I disappear off into the Yorkshire Dales for a walk with my other half and our dog. That always helps to clear my head.
Who has been your favourite social media personality this year? Any accounts stood out for you?
I’ve loved watching my friend’s business @picniccornwall find its voice on Twitter and go from strength to strength.
The what ifs
If you could do any job in the world what would it be?
I love what I do, but I’ve always quite fancied being a wildlife photographer. Quality control/taste testing at a gin distillery appeals to me, too.
If you could go back in time, which piece of advice would you give your younger self?
Trust your instincts. They usually turn out to be right.
What would be the perfect Christmas gift for you?
Christmas has already come early for me this year: my mum was recently given the all-clear after a cancer diagnosis and treatment, so Christmas with her and the rest of the family down in Cornwall will be even better this year.
Thanks for your time Karen, Merry Christmas from the Bdaily team!
