Cumbria and Lancashire firms to access additional £6m in flood relief
Additional funding will be made available for the thousands of companies on both sides of the Pennines affected by the Boxing Day deluge, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has revealed.
A further £6m will be made available for the estimated 2,500 flooded businesses, adding to the £5m already announced by the government to help firms across Cumbria and Lancashire.
According to ITV News, Small Business Minister Anna Soubry said: “It’s been a devastating Christmas for many business owners in the north of England who now face the challenge of repairing the damage and reopening their doors.
“Small businesses are the lifeblood of towns and cities right across the country and it is vital that we help them start trading again as soon as possible.”
The minister will visit an Italian restaurant and a pub in Croston, Lancashire, today (January 4) to see how firms are coping with the task of getting back on their feet.
