More than 60 ‘London Living Wage’ jobs created at new Stratford Lidl store

Lidl has created 66 new jobs, all at the newly-introduced ‘London Living Wage’, at its new store in the Stratford Centre, Newham.

The 800sq m store will see 46 new staff paid £9.40 per hour, as recommended by the Living Wage Foundation.

The budget retailer is now recruiting a further 20 positions for the store through the council’s job brokerage scheme Workplace.

Axel Bret, acquisitions manager for Lidl, said: “We are delighted to have opened the doors to our new store in Stratford. We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this store to the mall. It is wonderful for us to be able to create more jobs and invest in Stratford and we can’t wait for the local community to discover our multi-award winning products.”

This is the third Lidl store to open in the borough, the chain already has shops in East Ham and Beckton. Since 2007 Workplace has helped to secure more than 28,000 jobs for Newham residents.
