Edinburgh Consultancy Selected as Expert Funding Advisor to European Research and Innovation Programme
Edinburgh based strategic and technical consultancy business, Systeng Consulting, is celebrating success after business owner Dr Troncoso has been selected, again, as an expert panel member to the European Commission (EC) Horizon 2020 Research & Innovation Programme.
Specialising in providing consultancy services to businesses and public bodies in the technology, energy storage, aerospace and low carbon power generation sectors, Systeng has been selected to assess funding proposals submitted to the EC H2020 Programme.
Horizon 2020 is the financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at securing Europe’s global competitiveness. With the political backing of Europe’s leaders and the Members of the European Parliament, H2020 is helping to achieve this by funding projects from initial research to demonstration of technologies; in particular those with an emphasis on excellent science, industrial leadership and tackling societal challenges. The goal is to ensure the European Union produces world-class science, removes barriers to innovation and makes it easier for the public and private sectors to work together in delivering innovation.
The European Commission appoints independent experts who hold a high-level of expertise in the relevant fields, to assist with research and innovation assignments including the evaluation of proposals, monitoring of projects, evaluation of programmes and design of policy.
Speaking about the selection, Dr Enrique Troncoso, business owner of Systeng Consultancy, said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been selected as an expert panel member on this very prestigious programme. Both the previous Research Framework and the H2020 Programmes have always received a significant number of very competitive funding proposals year on year and only the highest scoring ones can be considered.
“I’m once again thrilled to be part of the assessment panel to decide on these and – with that - to be given the recognition that Systeng Consulting is considered to have the high level of expertise and experience required to carry out that role.”
Systeng Consulting works with some major clients including leading, high profile aerospace and energy companies, and for several years Dr Troncoso has acted as project lead and technical advisor with Boeing Research and Technology. The company has also successfully developed several public and private partnerships and secured more than £35m in private and public funding - over the past 10 years - for collaborative projects and advanced technology development programmes, as well as securing funding in 2015 for three additional collaborative programmes.
Now in its fourth year of business and with a string of high profile clients the company recently reported a 15% increase in turnover, is in the process of signing a number of other contracts and has plans for expansion in the near future.
