Black Friday sales drive quarterly growth at AO.com

Online appliances retailer AO World plc saw its UK business grow in the three months to December last year.

Overall revenues at the Bolton-headquartered firm’s ao.com website rose by 35% against the same period in 2014, with UK revenues up 24%.

The firm has attributed some of the growth to its performance over the Black Friday weekend, in which it drew on insights gained the year previous.

In December, the firm’s annualised revenue grew to €77m (around £57.7m), up by €16m (£12m) since September.

The three-month period saw AO World continue to develop its Small Domestic Appliances and Audio Visual segments in the UK. The firm has said it is researching further product categories, with a Netherlands launch due in the spring.

The firm’s chief operating officer, Steve Caunce, said of the results: “AO World continues to make progress on its long term plan; delivering sales growth across all categories and more customers enjoyed our excellent proposition.

“In Germany we made further progress and are proud of how our culture has translated and thank the German team for continuing to delight customers with the ao.de experience.”

He added: “Looking ahead, we remain confident that we will deliver for the benefit of both our customers and our investors and remain on track to deliver our long term strategy.”
