Chester visitors defy weather to take on mystery quest

The wet weather didn’t dampen spirits in Chester city centre over the weekend as hundreds of people took on the third and final mystery challenge from Chester Unlocked – Deva Codex: Cat Quest.

Steampunk-inspired Victorian characters and face painters animated the high street to celebrate the launch of final Deva Codex instalment, which encourages city visitors to explore Chester’s hidden history and solve cryptic riddles along the way.

The free activity runs until Sunday 31st January and prizes of up to £300* are on offer for those that successfully complete the challenge and unlock a 2,000-year-old city mystery.

Emily Ghazarian, Events Manager at CH1ChesterBID which has worked with Big Heritage on the project, said: “People of all ages came into the city to take on the final Deva Codex challenge and it was a great way to mark the first weekend of 2016.

“The Cat Quest is only open until the end of the month so we’re urging people to visit the city centre over the next three weeks to have a go at solving the cryptic riddles. It’s completely free to take part and there’s money to be won so it’s a great activity to help people banish those January blues.”

Combining fictional elements with real-life events from Chester’s past, Deva Codex: Cat Quest is the final Da Vinci Code-style challenge from Chester Unlocked – the history and heritage project created by CH1ChesterBID and Big Heritage.

Suitable for all ages, Deva Codex: Cat Quest takes around two hours to complete and people can take part any time between 9am and 5pm (Mondays to Saturdays) and 11am and 4pm (Sundays). The free activity bags can be picked up in city centre locations including the Grosvenor Museum and Visitor Information Centre.
