Contractor sought for £250m Woking town centre development
The search has begun for a principal contractor for the £250m Victoria Square development in Woking town centre.
A three-way development joint venture between Peacocks shopping centre owner Moyallen, Surrey County Council and Woking Borough Council, the project will see the construction of three skyscrapers as part of a dramatic transformation of the Surrey town.
Developers have already been obtained planning consent for 125,000 sq ft retail floorspace, along with 392 flats spread over two towers, and a 190-bed four star hotel.
The project has been hit by a number of delays and funding problems since it was announced, with costs rising from a projected £150m, but work is now expected to begin in early 2017 with an expected completion date sometime in 2020 reportsConstruction Enquirer.
Peter Robinson, managing director of Moyallen, said: “Beginning the process of appointing our principal contractor is a key stage in the delivery of Victoria Square.”
Speaking about the pedigree of any potential contractor, Peter added: “We are seeking a contractor with the skills, expertise and understanding to deliver what will be one of the most significant developments in Surrey. Woking town centre is going from strength-to-strength and Victoria Square is central to its future success.”
