Liverpool airport’s third new route of 2016 revealed

Hungarian airline Wizz Air will expand its offering from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) in the coming months with a new service to Poland.

At the end of March, the carrier will introduce its fifth service from Liverpool with three flights every week to Katowice, southwest Poland.

The airport’s air service development manager, Paul Winfield, said: “Wizz Air are one of Europe’s largest low cost airlines and have made significant progress over the past 12 months to grow their business at Liverpool and continue to take advantage of the opportunities to serve the North West market from here.”

The Katowice flights represent the third new route for LJLA so far in 2016 and follow a Budapest service from Wizz Air announced two weeks ago.

Tamara Mshvenieradze, Wizz Air’s corporate communications manager, commented: “We hope that our services will be welcomed by our UK consumers and look forward to a continuous fruitful partnership with Liverpool Airport.”

The new coincides with the announcement that Flybe has increased its services for North West passengers with flights between Liverpool and Cornwall.

In 2015, Wizz Air carried more than 110k passengers via Liverpool, which represents a year-on-year increase of over 60%.
