Winchester firm cuts emissions in the city
Winchester-based office supplies company Warrens has added an electric van to its growing fleet of delivery vehicles to help reduce emissions in Winchester city centre. The Mercedes Vito E-CELL, which will deliver goods to all local customers under the ‘Winchester Office Supplies’ branding, is fully electric and produces no harmful emissions whatsoever.
Paul Morgan, Managing Director of WarrensOffice, explains: “The removal of traffic from Winchester city centre isn’t practical nor is it the best solution for those who operate in the town centre and need our supplies on a daily basis. We can however, change the method we use to deliver to all those organisations located in our wonderful city whilst ensuring we do not have an adverse effect on already high pollution levels.
“As part of this initiative, we are also consolidating supplier deliveries to our High Street store by bringing them in to town using the Vito E-CELL which further reduces the need for large transport accessing the city centre unnecessarily.”
WarrensOffice is hoping other local delivery companies will follow its lead in making the switch to electric. Paul continues, “We would very much like to change our four other vans which cover a much larger part of the South of England over to fully electric alternatives, but we need the commercial vehicle technology investment from manufacturers to reflect what is happening in the domestic car market. Battery life and delivery range are the current challenges preventing us from making the switch but we should take some comfort from the fact that vehicle emission levels are currently a hot topic in the press at the moment!”
