Transglobal Express Delivers Doris Back Home
Setting two world records, the Coxless Crew are the first all-female and first four-person team to complete a Pacific crossing. Their journey took nine months, across a distance of approximately 8,000 nautical miles, from San Francisco, USA, to Cairns, Australia.
Their bright pink rowing boat, nicknamed Doris, was virtually considered a member of the team by the end of the trip. 29ft long and 7ft wide, she was just big enough to allow the rowers to take turns sleeping and rowing two at a time.
Mission accomplished for the Coxless Crew, but Doris’ journey is not quite over yet. Doris will be transported from Cairns back to the UK, where the Coxless Crew will continue to fundraise for their chosen charities, Breast Cancer Care and Walking with the Wounded.
In support of a great cause, Transglobal Express has taken on the costs and logistics of getting Doris back home. Doris said her tearful farewells to the rest of the team before being loaded onto a 40ft container and transported by rail from Cairns to Brisbane, with the help of Australia’s TNL International.
From the port at Brisbane, Doris will then make the long and winding journey home along the ocean shipping lanes, taking roughly six to eight weeks—a little faster than her journey so far.
The Coxless Crew’s expedition may be over, but you can still support them by texting DORIS to 70300 to donate £3, or by donating through coxlesscrew.com.
