Barratt Manchester bids fond farewell to Buckshaw Village

Nearly 14 years after the first bricks were laid at Chorley’s ambitious Buckshaw Village development, Barratt Manchester and local homeowners Mark and Barbara Bradshaw have this week celebrated the 1,223rd and final legal completion.

To mark the momentous occasion, Neil Goodwin, Managing Director at Barratt Homes visited the family, presenting them with flowers and champagne to help them celebrate moving in to their new home, and to bid a final fond farewell to Buckshaw Village.

This final Barratt Manchester legal completion is the 743rd Help to Buy sale, out of 869 in the North West for the five star builder, which has now successfully sold all its homes at the development.

During the 14 year build period Barratt Homes created approximately 1,079 (direct/indirect and operational) employment opportunities. The residential scheme is one of the largest in the North West with 2,500 new homes built, along with a range of amenities such as a school, supermarket and swimming baths to support a diverse community of 4,000 people. The village also includes more than 100 affordable homes, a medical centre, pharmacy and community hall.

Barratt Manchester, along with fellow housebuilder, Redrow funded the majority of the development work to bring the former BAE Systems site back into use, including the restoration of two listed buildings, Worden Old Hall and Buckshaw Hall, as well as a number of road and infrastructure improvements in and around the site.

In April 2013, Buckshaw Village made national news, with a visit from the Prime Minister, David Cameron who enjoyed a tour around the development from managing director, Neil Goodwin.

Throughout Barratt’s time on site, and as part of its commitment to supporting the local community, the well-known Barratt Legacy programme also facilitated a number of smaller projects and initiatives at Buckshaw Village, including the building of a large scale Wendy house in the grounds of Trinity Church of England/Methodist Primary School.

Neil Goodwin, Managing Director said: “Our first legal completion took place in August 2003 and our last was this week, nearly 13 years on. It has been a fantastic journey for all of our residents and for Barratt Manchester, and I am extremely proud of all the work our employees and contractors have put into the village.”

He continued: “It was a pleasure to celebrate the last completion with new residents Mark and Barbara and I hope they enjoy the champagne and living in their new home.”
