Pet snake worms its way to success
An educational pet day has helped children at Happy Jays nursery in Harrogate to learn about animals’ habitats and diets.
The pre-schoolers discussed their own animals, and were enchanted and delighted with an exotic red and white corn snake - which are popular as pets – owned by nursery practitioner Shoana Thornton.
Nic Njie, the nursery manager, said: “It was a fantastic day combining fun with learning. Many of the younger children didn’t know that there was a snake coming to visit, so their faces lit up when they saw her!”
The children were tasked with coming up with a name for the year old snake, with the favourite being Ivy. Tony Gernon, MD of the Happy Jays group of nurseries, commented: “Across all our nurseries we are proud to provide an excellent standard of care and learning whilst ensuring the children enjoy their time with us. Hands-on experiences like this enable our team to engage with the children about memorable topics which the children share with their families.” Happy Jays provides Ofsted registered nursery and childcare in Batley, Harrogate, Boroughbridge, York and Scarborough.
