Asbestos Disposal Service launched for North West businesses
Businesses in the North West of England that need to dispose of asbestos waste can now benefit from a new, nationwide asbestos disposal service, Biffa Asbestos, launched by leading waste management services provider, Biffa.
Asbestos remains a common problem across commercial properties in the North West of England, with an estimated 50 per cent believed to still harbour the potentially dangerous substance.
The substance can be found in any industrial building built or refurbished before the year 2000. When materials that contain asbestos are disturbed or damaged, fibres are released into the air and when these fibres are inhaled they can cause serious diseases.
In 2013, there were more than 3,000 asbestos related deaths in the UK and more than 2,000 diagnoses of asbestos-related diseases. Employers who do not adequately dispose of any asbestos in their buildings and fail to protect their employees are liable for asbestos claim pay-outs running into the thousands.
Biffa Asbestos benefits from a national disposal network and its logistics hub in St Helen’s is one of 12 dedicated regional centres throughout the UK, supported by a team of more than 85 specially trained drivers and a fleet of 200 exchange vehicles.
Paul Casey, regional general manager for Biffa’s Industrial and Commercial division said: “Asbestos disposal requires specialist expertise and we are pleased that we can now offer this fully compliant service and licensed network of disposal points to customers in the North West of England seeking to remove it from their premises safely.
“Our dedicated teams are fully trained with access to hundreds of regionally located containers, making us an ideal partner to businesses requiring an efficient and reliable asbestos disposal service.
“Through our online portal, customers can order, track and manage the disposal of asbestos with ease, ensuring the process is as quick and as straightforward as possible.”
