New £75m Manchester hospital given the green light

Nuffield Health, the private health and fitness centre operator, has received the go-ahead to deliver a new multi-million pound hospital in the centre of Manchester.

Set to be built on a five-acre site next to the Manchester Royal Infirmary, the £75m development will add to the firm’s UK-wide portfolio of 31 hospitals.

Barbara Baker, Nuffield Health’s market director for Manchester, said “This is an exciting milestone in our long-term vision to help transform the health prospects of the people of Manchester.

“The planning application received wholesale support from our many partners and neighbours and we are delighted that the Committee has granted its approval.”

She continued: “We consulted widely in developing the plans for the hospital to ensure that the facility we build will deliver significant health benefits to the people of Manchester and support existing healthcare providers, whilst also undertaking a sensitive regeneration of this neglected piece of land.”

Additional site remediation and demolition works on site will start this spring.
