The Coaching Inn Group to invest £1m in 18th century Richmond hotel

The Kings Head in Richmond is to receive a £1m investment after being acquired by independent coaching inns specialist, The Coaching Inn Group earlier this week.

The Coaching Inn Group, which specialises in transforming and revitalising coaching inns across the UK, has acquired the Kings Head from Ashdale Hotels.

The 26-bed Kings Head will continue to be run by the existing management team and will benefit from a £1m investment over the next 12 months, across its accommodation and food and beverage offering.

First opening its doors in 1717, the King’s Head first opened was initially built as a gentleman’s townhouse. Nearly 300 years on, the hotel offers a blend of Georgian architecture with modern practicalities in the heart of the bustling market town of Richmond, North Yorkshire.

Kevin Charity, founder and Managing Director of The Coaching Inn Group, said: “We’re delighted to have acquired the Kings Head as it has a great reputation locally and attracts visitors from across the UK. We look forward to working with the fantastic team there to further grow its reputation and attract even more visitors and guests.

“The next 12 months will see us invest up to £1 million in the property, including refurbishing the accommodation and developing the food and beverage offering and experience, introducing our popular Eatery and Coffee House concept.”

The acquisition of the Kings Head in Richmond follows The Coaching Inn Group’s announced plans to invest £20m expanding across the UK. 2015 saw the Group acquire four new inns, with plans to add another five to the estate this year.
