Imperial Innovations Group invests £3m in chemical company Aqdot
London-based Imperial Innovations Group has committed £3m to specialist chemical firm Aqdot as part of their Series A funding round.
The investment firm, which started life as a department at Imperial College London, took part in the funding round, which raised a total of £5m, alongside Cambridge Enterprise, Parkwalk Advisors and Providence Investment Company.
Aqdot specialises in encapsulation technology and has developed proprietary technologies which encapsulate and protect valuable active products, which are termed cargos, in a variety of settings.
Primarily, such chemical technology has uses in household products, fragrances and niche industrial applications; however, the chemical firm is also planning to explore potential applications in agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals.
This new funding round means Imperial Innovations have now invested £4.6m in the Cambridge-based company, following a £1.6m investment in November 2013, and it takes the firm’s interest in the company up to 46.5%.
Following this latest funding effort, Kelsey Lynn Skinner, Director Technology Ventures at Innovations, said: “Aqdot has taken significant steps forward since the last funding round in particular in customer engagement and application-specific technology development.
“Aqdot has a strong team in place, and we are proud to lead this Series A round alongside our co-investors to enable the continued execution of the strategy.”
