Planning application lodged for City of London’s tallest skyscraper

Singapore-based developers Aroland Holdings have submitted planning application for a new 73-storey tower in the City of London.

The proposed building, which will be located at 1 Undershaft, will reach 309.6m tall bringing it level with the Shard’s tallest point in London Bridge, and making it the tallest building in the City.

The current headquarters of insurance giant Aviva will be demolished to make room for the new building.

Aroland Holdings commissioned architect Eric Parry for the designs which consist of a 90,000 sq m building able to accommodate 10,000 people, a viewing platform higher than the Shard’s and London’s highest public sky restaurant.

Commenting when the plans were initially revealed last December, Parry said: “Most skyscrapers are used Monday to Friday, but One Undershaft will be used seven days a week, with visitors able to enjoy the new public square, viewing platform and restaurant every day.

“It will be the jewel in the crown of the City of London and something we hope Londoners will be very proud of.”
