Three Cheers for Teetotal G ‘n’ T

Teetotal G ‘n’ T, an innovative new soft drink offering all the taste with none of the alcohol is set to delight gin lovers who want to abstain.

Whether it’s for health reasons or to stay under the drink driving limit, Teetotal G ‘n’ T is an adult solution to the perennial problem of what to drink if you want to avoid alcohol.

“It tastes and looks exactly like a gin and tonic, which makes the drinker feel like they are having a gin and tonic. It is set to do for drinkers what vaping has done for smokers,” said restaurateur and entrepreneur Ian Ackroyd, who created the beverage along with his friends, chemist Ian Jowett and inventor and entrepreneur Brendan Duckworth.

“Everyone knows how trying it becomes on a night out to find something grown up to drink which doesn’t put you over the limit – a choice usually restricted to soft drinks or juices. Teetotal G ‘n’ T retains the ambience and experience of enjoying a tipple without the hangover and it is made from all natural, high quality ingredients.

“It’s perfect for Dry January and for sticking within the government’s safe drinking gui delines.”

The government safe drinking guidelines changed in early January to reflect current research into links between alcohol and cancer to 14 units per week for both men and women – that’s 14 pub measure gin and tonics, six glasses of wine or six pints of beer.

The three North Yorkshire businessmen have together formed The Temperance Spirit Company and have spent the last eight months developing the product. It is now available at selected restaurants and hotels across the North of England.

Chemist Ian Jowett painstakingly tweaked the recipe until he was satisfied they had developed an authentic taste.

Said Dr Jowett: “We have used top quality ingredients to accurately replicate the taste of gin and tonic. Market research tastings proved that people preferred a stronger, more ‘ginny’ taste and we believe we now have a beverage to please the palate of everyone who enjoys a gin and tonic. Importantly, our use of better quality, natural ingredients will not leave you with a headache, which can sometimes be associated with some non-alcoholic drinks.”

Ian Ackroyd is no stranger to innovation in food as he was the first to make frozen Yorkshire puddings for the consumer market. He now runs Napiers restaurant in Skipton.

Said Ian: “Everyone who has tried Teetotal G ‘n’ T has gone on to order more – customers love it. We see people drinking it in the restaurant and feeling part of the crowd as to all intents and purposes, they’re enjoying a real gin and tonic. It’s also a great base ingredient for gin cocktails and we have a number of recipes freely available on our website.”

Teetotal G ‘n’ T contains 26 calories and 6g of sugar per 100ml serving. There are plans to bring out a club soda version of the beverage in coming months as well as other teetotal spirit and mixer drinks.
