All smiles for the Golden-Oldies
A charity that has singing and smiling at its heart has been gifted £1,000 to help those attending its fun daytime sessions in Withywood, Bristol.
The Golden-Oldies charity received the funding from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley; as part of the builder’s Community Champions initiative.
The group of 105 members meet on the first Thursday of every month at Withywood Centre to sing popular songs from the 50s onwards, meet old friends and make new ones, stretch and have lots of fun.
Golden-Oldies helps bring positive change to marginalised vulnerable people including adults with learning difficulties and those suffering with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Grenville Jones, Founder and Chief Officer for the Golden-Oldies, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have support from Persimmon Homes. This donation will help us run these sessions for 12 months by covering the cost of room hire and audio equipment. Goldies gives people living in isolation a reason to get out, so this donation will be of great benefit to them.”
Nicola Reed, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Severn Valley said the Community Champions initiative was a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company works.
She said: “We are so pleased to hand over this donation to the Golden-Oldies charity. It was clear just how important this group is to the local community and it seemed fitting we did what we could to support them.”
The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.
Nicola said: “We’ve made it really simple to apply for funding, and we’re urging groups and charities to apply for next month’s donation by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”
