Second major office development confirmed at Croydon’s Ruskin Square

Schroder UK Real Estate Fund (SREF) and Stanhope Plc have been granted planning permission for another major office building at the £500m Ruskin Square development in Croydon.

The new 14-storey building, which is the second of six planned office buildings on the site, has been designed by MAKE Architects and will include retail on the ground floor, Construction Enquirer report.

The confirmation comes after Landlease were confirmed as the preferred contractor for the first 180,000 sq ft office building on the site last year.

Sitting next to East Croydon station, the mixed-used scheme at Ruskin Square is spread over 2.5m sq ft and, once completed, will include five apartment blocks and 100,000 sq ft of retail, cafes and restaurants, along with the planned office buildings.

Commenting as work commenced last year, James Lass, Fund Manager at SREF, said: “Croydon’s reputation as a major business hub continues to grow apace and the commencement of the office element at Ruskin Square paves the way for us to deliver high quality, flexible accommodation for Croydon’s rapidly growing business population.

“We are already engaged in detailed discussions with prospective tenants and are confident that occupier interest will only continue to grow as we embark on this next phase of construction.”
