How is mobile technology transforming our lives?
With things changing in the world of technology there are going to be several noticeable changes in mobile technology as well. Like most recently what came to instant notice was how almost all new products introduced at last year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, connected to an iPhone or Android Phone and they were even some form of wearable tech or home tech.
This clearly indicates that smartphones are a central part of our lives with them replacing or wallets, light switches and keys as well as can be used to control thermostats, TVs, ovens, alarm systems, washing machines and dryers. They can be connected to wearable devices as well that monitor activity, inactivity, and sleep. With the expansion of smartphones in the form of larger screens, more powerful processors and faster internet connections, they are replacing the myriad of things we would earlier do on our computers, for instance browsing the internet, connecting to social media and shopping. This way we are more tied to our mobile devices, however these exciting features are certain to transform the way we live our lives. Let’s find out how it’s going to impact our lifestyle.
1) Payments – In the latest smartphones, we see NFC (Near Field Communication) chips and they come combined with services like Apple Pay and Google Wallet thus it’s easier to make the payment with both. However, they don’t appear to replace Credit/Debit Cards. Even though Credit/Debit cards didn’t replace cash still they gained the status of being ubiquitous. Same can be expected with services such as Apple Pay and Google Wallet. Thus the users need not carry cash anymore. The more the retailers adopt NFC reading tech into their Point of Sale systems, the lesser would be the requirement to use a physical credit/debit cards.
2) Keys – Well, we there is a large group of people that detest carrying around keys reason being they are bulky, heavy and God forbid if you lose them then you are surely in for a trouble. Now imagine if you can take the assistance of smart phone to lock and unlock your car, house, office, locker, safe or any kind of lock. Life would be easy for sure. So here is the great news, as now you can lock and unlock things in close proximity to the lock just using your smart phone. What say, isn’t it big?
3) Controls (Home Automation) – Yes, you heard that right. Now Thermostats, TVs, garage doors, alarm systems, lights, security, cameras, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, ovens, microwaves, fireplaces, window shades and almost anything that facilitates digital control will be replaced or augmented with mobile apps. You can have these controls on your smart devices while they will also offer way more control and customizability, for instance, you will see your refrigerators reminding you as you’re close to run out of milk and will automatically place it on your grocery list. Same way oven apps will guide you through a recipe so yum food can be cooked. At the same time, proximity will automatically activate controls for things like lights, garage doors and alarm systems.
4) Smart Watches – Gone are the days when people would adorn watches to check time as they rather use phone for the same. Then what excites the crowd for Apple Watch. Well, it’s going to have apps. Certainly this makes the smart watch worth it. Not only these apps will be unique, but connected to a range of sensors comprising of an accelerometer, GPS, altimeter and heart-rate monitor. They allow you to interact with apps on the iPhone, like messaging, notifications and driving directions. No doubt, smart watches will be a commonplace extension of the smart phones enabling you to make phone calls and text message. Smart watches will also facilitate to pay for things, open and close locks, start cars and control homes. At the same time you can also keep a tab on your health are tracking your activity and various biometrics.
5) Wearables: For a long time, the only wearable that was considered worth wearing was smart watch, however, in the recent times they have been some useful, marketable and affordable wearable products. However, they are yet to grow on the masses. Don’t be surprised if in the coming times, you get to see footwear, head wear, accessories, etc, become a wearable device with sensors that will be tracking movement as well as assist you move better, feel better, capture the moment and interact with your other devices.
Thus, it’s clear that mobile technology has a great future and there will be huge developments in the years to come. This way, mobile devices will become the center point of every part of our lives.
