North East teen brings UK rapper to the region

AN ENTREPRENEURIAL youngster from the North East is behind one of the UK’s leading urban artists visiting the region for a one-off concert.

Rapper Wretch 32 will be performing at Newcastle’s O2 Academy on April 30 for one of his first performances in over two years – and it’s all down to the work of 19-year old Jason Blackburn.

The Hartlepool-born youngster, who has already had success in his teenage years playing for Carlisle United FC, decided to turn his hand to the music industry and begin attracting more international stars to the region.

Jason, who also works part-time as a gym instructor, said: “I am always thinking of the next idea and what I can do that will attract attention to the region.

“Setting up my own business and turning my attention to music is really what I’m passionate about.

“I started with a concert in my own hometown of Hartlepool last year and realised that with the correct formula of putting these events together I could put on more around the North East.”

Jason began by researching Wretch 32 and contacting his agent to explore the possibility of putting on an event. After getting the green light, he secured the O2 Academy and began promoting the event.

Supporting Wretch 32 are acts Bugzy Malone and Ex on the Beach’s Ashley Cain.

Jason added: “Ticket sales are already going well so I’d urge anyone who’s interested to book up fast before they all sell out.

“This is a one off event from the artist and not to be missed after his previous performances at Wireless Festival and Space in Ibiza.”

The inspiring youth already has his sights set on more new acts to bring to the region and is in talks with a number of management companies.

Jason said: “Music is something me and my friends really enjoy, I’m always texting them with various acts to get their feedback and whether they would go to see them.

“I’m hoping to put on my next event in Middlesbrough with a well-known DJ, but can’t say too much at the moment.”
