Profits fly in record year for Heathrow Airport
Heathrow Airport has announced bumper profits last year as more passengers than ever are jetting off from the hub airport.
Profits were up to £223m at the airport in 2015, an increase of 22% from the £183m posted the previous year.
This was helped, in no small part, by getting more passengers through the doors than ever before with 75m people travelling to and from Heathrow, an increase of 2.2% on the previous year.
With total revenue now up to over £2.7bn, an increase of 2.7% on the previous year, it was good news all round for the airport.
The results come as it continues to stake its claim for an extra runway and it plots major infrastructure redevelopments, such as the Western Rail Link, to support any future expansion.
John Holland-Kaye, Chief Executive Officer of Heathrow, commented: “It’s been an excellent year for Heathrow. As we approach our 70th anniversary, our colleagues are delivering the best service we’ve ever achieved to a record number of passengers.
“We’re also making strong progress on our environmental commitments by reducing emissions and noise, and another set of robust financial results underpins our plans to make Heathrow the most sustainable hub airport and the UK the best connected country in the world.
“I’m confident that this summer the Government will agree with its Airports Commission that expanding Heathrow is the only way to secure Britain’s long-term economic future and meet environmental demands. We stand ready to deliver.”
