Flying Scotsman Hotel Initiative

Stoke Rochford Hall near Grantham has launched a new break for guests to commemorate the return of the Flying Scotsman. The hotel is close to the spot on the East Coast line known as Stoke Bank where the world’s most famous steam locomotive set the first 100-mile an hour speed record on 30th November 1934.

The Flying Scotsman was the first steam engine to be recorded breaking the 100 mph speed barrier and has been a firm favourite with the public ever since. For 40 years this A3 Gresley Pacific steam locomotive plied the east coast line between London and Edinburgh, clocking up around 2 million miles before being gracefully retired in 1963.

Flying Scotsman is making the journey again in February 2016 and the hotel is celebrating its return to Stoke Bank with this special break that includes a two-night stay with dinner and the chance to visit the section of track where the record was achieved. Guests will also be invited to a special visit to the Great Central Railway at Loughborough, the only place in the world where you can see two full sized steam trains pass each other. The break is priced at £100 per person.
