Doncaster eco office scheme shortlisted for prestigious property award

An innovative South Yorkshire office park development has been shortlisted for the commercial property of the year title in the 2016 Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards.

Prospect Property Group’s £10m Fountain Court Workpods scheme at Doncaster International Business Park was designed by Leeds-based Vaughan Architecture & Design, from an initial concept by Edward Architecture, and built by main contractor Henry Boot Construction.

In total, the scheme, which is set to create up to 130 local jobs, will comprise 62,000 sq ft of environmentally sustainable office space in 22 units. Main contractor Henry Boot Construction completed the site in September 2015, building the state of the art energy efficient office buildings, known as Workpods. The project is part-financed by the European Union and has attracted £2.49m of EU funding from the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF programme 2007-13.

Jonathan Raistrick, projects director at Prospect Property Group, said: “The development has attracted a great deal of positive comment and feedback, and has been commercially successful. There has already been a lot of interest in the units, but this latest recognition by RICS at the region’s leading industry awards is a huge bonus.”

He added: “Both the initial design concept and subsequent attention to detail during design development were crucial to this nomination, but much credit should go to the Henry Boot team who have delivered an innovative scheme with plenty of challenges, on time and with great results.”

The scheme, one of just four commercial property projects in Yorkshire and the Humber nominated for an award by RICS, will now be considered for the regional and national titles.

The winner of the Yorkshire and Humber RICS Award will be announced at a black tie awards ceremony at Harrogate’s Majestic Hotel on 13 May.
