New £400m Spurs stadium takes shape after Mayor grants planning approval

Tottenham Hotspur have received planning approval for a new 61,000-seater stadium in London.

The Northumberland Development Project, which is to cost £400m, will see the club double its current capacity and includes a retractable pitch along with a 180-bed hotel, sports and health centre, and an interactive museum devoted to the history of the football club.

Spurs are hoping to move into the stadium by the 2018/19 season.

Commenting on the news, Chairman of Spurs, Daniel Levy, said: “This marks yet another major milestone for this vital and complex scheme and we are grateful to the Mayor for his ongoing support. We remain focussed on completing the final stages of the planning process.

“This new scheme carries enormous public benefits and will play a key role in kick-starting place change, bringing exceptional opportunities for the local community and wider stakeholders.

“We are proud to be part of this important step forward for an area that has been our home for more than 130 years and where we shall continue to live and play our part.”
