Amazon strikes deal with Morrisons to sell fresh food products across the UK
Morrisons has struck a new deal that will see the supermarket supply fresh and frozen food products to Amazon customers in the UK.
The Bradford-headquartered supermarket chain has struck a deal with the US giant to supply products for the Amazon Prime Now and Amazon Pantry services.
Amazon began selling groceries through its Pantry service, which launched in the UK last year. But this new deal marks the first time the online retailer has offered fresh and frozen food products.
The new service will be available to Amazon customers later this year.
David Potts, Morrisons’ chief executive, said: “The combination of our fresh food expertise with Amazon’s online and logistics capabilities is compelling.
“This is a low risk and capital light wholesale supply arrangement that demonstrates the opportunity we have to become a broader business. We look forward to working with Amazon to develop and grow this partnership over the coming months.”
Morrisons currently has a a 25-year supply agreement with Ocada to run its online delivery service, and the supermarket chain will expand the UK coverage of Morrisons.com by taking space in Ocado’s distribution centre in Erith, southeast London.
