Petro-Canada Lubricants launches PC-11 awareness campaign at 2016 TMC Annual Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition

Petro-Canada Lubricants, a Suncor business, launched its ‘Here Comes the Future’ campaign at the 2016 TMC Annual Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition today. The campaign is designed to increase awareness of the new PC-11 generation of North American diesel engine oils and the impact that they will have on heavy duty vehicle operators when they come into effect later this year.

“We believe that PC-11 will deliver major efficiency and operational benefits for businesses operating heavy duty vehicles in North America, but more needs to be done to raise awareness of this, which is why we have introduced the ‘Here Comes the Future’ campaign.” commented Howard McIntyre, vice president, Lubricants, Suncor.

‘Here Comes the Future’ will address the current industry knowledge gap to provide clear and concise information on how PC-11 products will differ from their predecessors, the technology behind them, and the impact that they will have for both on-road and off-road operators around the world.

A new website, herecomespc11.com, will be launched in March as part of the campaign, and will act as a comprehensive guide to the new category, hosting the latest news and insights into the impact of the new specification.

PC-11 category lubricants, which will enter the market in December 2016, have been driven by industry stakeholders to reflect the needs of future engine hardware. The category is defined with having a specialized tier of thinner, lower viscosity grades, which provide lower fluid resistance in the engine, meaning that less fuel is required to provide the same level of power from the engine.

Furthermore, PC-11 engine oils have been developed with increased durability at the forefront of the specification, meaning greater engine protection for longer periods and fewer oil changes, which will result in a reduction in downtime for heavy duty vehicles – a major source of lost income.

The category will include two-tiers of engine oils, with PC-11A to be formally known as API CK-4, which will be an upgrade to the current lubricant specification and will be completely backwards-compatible with older diesel engine oil categories. The sister category, PC-11B, will be known as FA-4 and will have limited backwards compatibility due to their focus on a lower high temperature high shear range, which enables major fuel economy benefits without sacrificing engine protection.

Petro-Canada Lubricants is developing and testing its own next generation, PC-11 approved engine oils that utilize best in class technology to deliver ultimate engine protection for the world’s heavy duty vehicles. Its products are tested Beyond Today’s Standards™, including in Canada’s harshest environments and most extreme temperatures to ensure that they are strong and durable in any application.

“As a major global oil marketer and manufacturer at the forefront of PC-11 technology, we want to address the key questions that are being asked by the industry to support them in making informed decisions through our Here Comes the Future campaign,” McIntyre continues.

“We have gained a reputation as the king of off-road engine oils in recognition of our outstanding product range designed specifically for heavy duty vehicles utilized in the mining, construction and agriculture industries. Our thorough testing of the next generation of lubricant products will consolidate this standing and continue to deliver exceptional efficiency gains for our customers.”
