Award-winning entrepreneur to inspire Sunderland students
A MULTI-AWARD WINNING entrepreneur will be sharing the secrets of his success with young people from across Sunderland at an event this week (March 11).
Darren Williams, who has created more than seven companies in the past 15 years and has sold five of them, was also behind the Harland Corp which became the fastest growing online hair and beauty company in the UK.
And he will be revealing how he created a number of multi-million pound businesses to Sunderland school pupils, as part of the Work Discovery Sunderland Guest Speaker Day programme.
On Friday Darren will be joined by Natasha McDonough from Sunderland-based marketing company MMC and HR specialist, Louise Kennedy from Oculus HR, who will each individually tell their career stories.
The speaker days are part of the wider Work Discovery Sunderland programme, which includes specific sector days and Work Discovery Week, which this year will run from July 11 to 15.
“Darren is a fantastic example of a young entrepreneur whose businesses go from strength to strength,” said Paul McEldon, co-chair of Work Discovery Sunderland.
“He’s an absolute inspiration and I’m sure that everyone who attends will enjoy hearing him – and the other speakers –talk about their chosen careers.”
The Speaker Day is being held at the North East Business and Innovation Centre at Wessington Way, with the young people hearing about the personal journeys that the guests have made.
Work Discovery Sunderland was created by Sunderland’s Economic Leadership Board Business Schools Task Group and also runs Work Discovery Week, which helps students to develop their employability skills and get an insight into various industries before they embark on their careers.
Any business or organisation which would like to be involved in the week is asked to contact Stephanie Rose at stephanie.rose@sunderland.gov.uk
