Occupational therapist to present at Scarborough Headway event
Local occupational therapist Gillian Taylor will explain the benefits of a new therapeutic horse-riding service at an event on Thursday, March 10 organised by The Yorkshire East Coast branch of Headway.
The talk and social event from Headway - a charity which provides a wide range of support and information services for people with brain injuries, their families and carers - will run from 6pm-8pm at The Street youth and community facility, 12 Lower Clark Street. Light refreshments, information, factsheets and advice will be available.
Headway’s local branch chair Mark Hollinghurst said: “Everyone is welcome - whether you have suffered a brain injury or you are a family member, carer, volunteer or professional. After the illuminating talk we have planned, members and visitors can chat informally and there will be experts on hand to provide information and advice.”
Across 2013-2014 almost 349,000 people were admitted to hospital with a brain injury which constitutes 566 admissions per 100,000 of the population. The majority will make a full recovery in time but even a minor injury can sometimes result in longer term problems. Severe injuries will inevitably need complex care, impacting on the patient, their family and carers.
