Tech firm Digital Catapult in nationwide call for data sharing centres
London-based tech firm the Digital Catapult has launched another Open Call for centres to join its growing UK data sharing network.
The firm, which was founded in 2013 by Innovate UK, is calling on businesses, innovators, academia and the public sector as it attempts to grow its network of Digital Catapult Centres.
Since launching the network of centres in March 2015, hubs in Brighton, North East & Tees Valley and Yorkshire have welcomed over 1500 visitors, held over 60 events and engaged with over 300 SMEs.
Through the creation of a nationwide network of data sharing centres, Digital Catapult aims to help local communities and the wider economy capitalise on the potential £200bn value of data drive innovations to the UK economy.
Successful collaborative projects that have already stemmed from the data sharing centres include initiatives with global businesses such as Barclays, Nissan and American Express, contributing over £1m of additional investment to the digital communities involved.
Neil Crockett, Chief Executive, the Digital Catapult said: “The UK has reached a pivotal point, ready to maximise the huge potential of sharing proprietary data.
“This is an exciting time for the Digital Catapult as we grow our network of existing centres and extend our reach and collaboration throughout the UK. We are calling on the amazing talent of the UK’s digital community to drive innovation and create more breakthroughs for the UK’s data sharing movement.
“The new centres will not only create significant impact and business opportunities locally, but will help support the UK in becoming a digital leader.”
