Explore partners with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity
Explore Learning, the popular provider of maths and English tuition for children aged five to 14 is pleased to announce the launch of a new partnership with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
The charity, which provides direct support for seriously ill children and their families was chosen in a group vote by all the staff at Explore Learning, whose headquarters are based in Guildford.
Over 30,000 children from across the UK attend Explore Learning’s 120 centres each week – and they, together with the 3,000 staff at the company will be taking part in a number of fund-raising events over the next year to reach their ambitious £12,000 target.
This money will go towards funding the charity’s Roald Dahl Children’s Nurses who provide vital information, reassurance and support to families in hospital and at home. There are currently 53 Roald Dahl specialist children’s nurses caring for over 15,000 children suffering from serious, rare or undiagnosed conditions in the UK. Other funds will be put towards the charity’s Marvellous Family Grants which provide practical support, such as respite care, counselling and play therapy to give children from disadvantaged backgrounds the best chance of having a marvellous childhood.
Rob Hicks, Managing Director at Explore Learning says of the new partnership: “We work with children on a daily basis in an effort to make their childhoods more rewarding, so Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity seemed to be the perfect fit as their team work so hard to help children who have been affected by serious illness, and their families. It is a wonderful cause, with a real, tangible impact on young lives, and we are determined to raise as much money as possible while having great fun. We are thrilled to be associated with the charity.”
As well as days where children and staff will be asked to dress up as their favourite Roald Dahl characters, teams from Explore Learning will be undertaking a number of physical challenges such as long-distance runs as well as bake sales and quizzes.
Felicity Dahl, Roald Dahl’s widow and President of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity commented: “I am delighted to hear the staff at Explore Learning have chosen us to be their new charity partner. We have been helping to make life more marvellous for seriously ill children, including through our wonderful Roald Dahl specialist children’s nurses, for twenty five years. As a small charity, the funds raised at Explore Learning centres will be a huge boost, enabling us to help more seriously ill children and their families brave the unknown - together.”
Explore Learning is one of the UK’s largest providers of extra tuition, with 120 centres located across the UK and their headquarters based in Guildford. They provide extra tuition in maths and English to children aged five to 14, at a ratio of one tutor to six children, meaning the children get plenty of attention. Children come twice a week for an hour of learning and 15 minutes of fun in ‘Surf Club’. Helping Hand schemes are available for some parents who are on income support or have more than one child attending.
Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, which is headquartered in Amersham, close to the home of Roald Dahl in Great Missenden, supports seriously ill children who have the biggest needs, namely those with a serious rare or undiagnosed condition, and often living in poverty.
