Financial Times release documentary on the dwindling Chinese economy
The Financial times have released a revealing new short film which investigates the current state of the Chinese economy.
The 15 minute documentary, which can be found on YouTube, explores how the seemingly limitless wave of cheap labour that helped propel the extraordinary boom in the Chinese economy since the 1980s is coming to an end. Narrated by the Financial Times’ Asia editor Jamil Anderlini, the film features the real life stories of those who have been affected by the slowing economy as businesses seek alternatives to rising costs, including smuggling workers in from neighbouring Vietnam and relocating factories to South East Asia.
Whilst the subject itself may at first seem bleak, with one possible aftereffect being a global recession, the film has a lot of heart for the Chinese people as it is revealed that migrant workers are moving back home.
Further infornation on the state of the Chinese economy and the end of the migrant miracle can be found on the Financial Times website.
