Mosaic Enterprise Challenge winners in South East revealed
A team of young entrepreneurs from Rivers Academy in Feltham has won the South East Regional Final of the 2016 Enterprise Challenge competition, a flagship education initiative driven by Mosaic, HRH The Prince of Wales’ mentoring charity.
‘Team Eazo Peazo’ from Rivers Academy beat stiff competition from teams from Gordon’s School in Surrey, Lampton Academy in Hounslow, Francis Combe Academy in Watford and Beechwood School in Slough with their idea to install piezoelectric pads in their main school corridors as well as to generate energy from students playing football. The pads would harness the energy students exert while walking to generate usable energy, like solar power but do so more inexpensively.
All finalists had already beaten hundreds of students from other schools across the region to reach the final.
The competing teams pitched their ideas in a Dragons Den-style event to a prestigious panel of judges including Jeff Green, CEO of GP Corporate Finance, Dr. Atif Bashir, Chairman of Mosaic Scotland, Downshan Humzah, Marketing Consultant at The Worst Kept Secret and Carole Spiers, CEO Carole Spiers Group.
Team Eazo Peazo will now progress to the Enterprise Challenge Grand Final in London on 4th May where they will compete against winning schools from the North West, West Midlands, London, Yorkshire and Glasgow for the chance to become national champions.
The pupils said: ““Today was a brilliant experience, for which we prepared a lot. We practiced every day after school. We especially enjoyed working with our mentors - they helped us and guided us through it all. We are already a little nervous but excited to take our idea to the Grand Final!”
Chair of Judges Jeff Green said: ““It was an amazingly inspirational day. The children were wonderful and did a terrific job under a lot of pressure. It was a very tough decision in the end. I want to wish the winning team from Rivers Academy the best of luck for the Grand Final!”
The Enterprise Challenge is generously sponsored nationally by Apax Foundation and Qatar Charity UK and supported by Heathrow Community Fund in the region. The South East Regional Finals were generously supported by Comfort Care Services.
